Salome Oggenfuss’s Activations program, Rec, Center, Stage, invites participants to deepen their relationship to public space through a series of theatrical interventions at the Chelsea Recreation Center. Drawing on their own imagination and experiences, participants use the center’s equipment, constituents, and day-to-day operations as source material for a collective performance. By devising a response to the site, Oggenfuss and the cast of Rec, Center, Stage propose that everyday contexts hold inherent dramaturgical potential.

In December a small group of participants convenes at the Chelsea Recreation Center to devise the performance, which will be shared with the public on January 20.

Additional choreography facilitation by Gillian Walsh.

Program description
Activations is a series of interdisciplinary public workshops designed by artists in response to civic spaces in New York. Each activation invites participants to encounter a ready-made site through the lens of an artistic practice, reimagining them as spaces of creative possibility. All are welcome to participate.

Salome Oggenfuss, born in Switzerland, is an artist working across disciplines. Her practice draws on years of experience working as a casting director specializing in discovering first-time performers for film, TV, and the stage.
