Charles Atlas was born in Saint Louis in 1949. He is a filmmaker and video artist whose practice brings together dance, performance, and media. Recent solo exhibitions include Charles Atlas: Ominous, Glamorous, Momentous, Ridiculous, Fondazione ICA Milano (2021); Charles Atlas: The Mathematics of Consciousness, Pioneer Works, Brooklyn (2022); and Charles Atlas: Selected Videos 1987–2015, Chrysler Museum of Art, Norfolk, Virginia (2023). Recent film screenings have taken place at the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles (2016); Sydney Opera House (2019); and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (2021). Atlas lives in New York.
