Annette Lawrence was born in Rockville Centre, New York, in 1965. Her practice is characterized by transforming raw data into drawings, objects, and installations in an attempt to contend with what counts, how it is counted, and who is counting. Lawrence’s work has been widely exhibited and has been acquired by Artpace San Antonio, Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, and Rachofsky Collection in Dallas, among others. Her work was included in the 1997 Whitney Biennial at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City. She received a BFA from the Hartford Art School in Connecticut, and an MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. She is also an alumna of the Core Program at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine. Lawrence lives and works in Denton, Texas, where she is a professor of studio art in the College of Visual Arts and Design at the University of North Texas.
