Alexandra Munroe is an award-winning author, curator, and scholar, focusing on art, culture, and institutional global strategy. Munroe is the Samsung Senior Curator of Asian Art and Senior Advisor of Global Arts at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City, where she has led the Guggenheim’s Asian Art Initiative since it was founded in 2006. Under her leadership, the museum has presented groundbreaking exhibitions and scholarly publications on Asian art in a global context and has expanded its mission to study, acquire, and exhibit art from beyond the Western world. Her project Japanese Art after 1945: Scream Against the Sky (1994) is recognized for initiating the field of postwar Japanese art history in the United States. She is currently organizing the exhibition Art and China after 1989: Theater of the World, which opens at the Guggenheim in October 2017.
