About Dia Art Foundation 

Dia Art Foundation was established in 1974 for the purpose of collecting, commissioning, and presenting major works of art made in the 1960s onward. Today it consists of nine permanent sites across the United States and Germany, as well as three changing exhibition spaces in New York State: Dia Chelsea in New York, Dia Beacon in the Hudson Valley, and Dia Bridgehampton on Long Island. Dia is taken from the Greek word for “through” and conveys the foundation’s role as a facilitator of meaningful artistic experiences that can be encountered in single and repeated visits.  

Position summary

Reporting to the Head of Marketing, this position provides support across all areas of the department with a focus on the development and implementation of brand marketing initiatives, advertising campaigns, creative content, website-owned channel management, and tourism initiatives. This position acts as the primary liaison for internal marketing requests and works with both internal and external partners in the execution of Dia’s marketing and brand strategies.

Essential job duties and responsibilities

Marketing:

  • Create and maintain advertising booking, design schedules, and advertising plans for all advertising, including exhibition ads and general awareness campaigns, working closely with Head of Marketing on new and expanded strategies for advertising
  • Support the realization of an expanded upstate marketing plan and brand calendar, increasing community awareness and engagement, including free admission program for Newburgh residents; identify and communicate with relevant publications and advertising opportunities
  • Liaise with outside design firms to create new advertising directions, assist with maintaining advertising design schedules and implementing advertising plans
  • Instigate segmentation of Dia’s audiences according to location and interests
  • Perform occasional design work, coordinate outsourcing to external designers as needed
  • Craft ad copy to support marketing initiatives
  • Oversee communications assistant in scheduling, production, and sign-off process of all emails, including event newsletters, Dia News, membership promos, bookshop emails, development invites
  • Work with content role to advertise on Instagram and Facebook
  • Work closely with membership team to promote membership, including monthly member newsletter and promotions
  • Work with bookshop to promote publications and product
  • Engage with expanding Dia’s tourism outreach, working with publications and tourism representatives to amplify Dia’s locations

Website management:

  • With oversight from the Head of Marketing, and in collaboration with relevant departments, maintain responsibility for website management including identifying and implementing improvements to accessibility, experience, and design
  • Work with Director of IT to optimize Dia’s website, implementing new features or adjusting existing features as needed
  • Review all web updates initiated by the Communications & Marketing Assistant including those for new exhibitions, programs, and visitor information
  • Take the lead on procuring website and microsite analytics, synthesizing and presenting to leadership as requested

General/other responsibilities and duties

  • Coordinate with Communications & Marketing Assistant on scheduling cross-departmental meetings to align on institutional priorities
  • Work with Head of Marketing on general brand strategy and positioning Dia among other arts institutions
  • Work with visitor services to track marketing needs and impact
  • Work with Director of Communications and Special Projects on location services
  • Other day-to-day marketing administrative work, as assigned
  • Provide onsite support for marketing and communications events, as needed

Education, certifications, and experience

  • BA in related field (art history, marketing, liberal arts) or equivalent relevant experience required
  • 2–3 years of experience working in marketing and advertising, preferably at a museum, nonprofit, contemporary art space, or a related field

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Knowledge of best practices for advertising and marketing
  • Experience working with CMS and HTML preferred
  • Proficiency with MS Office products including MS Outlook, MS Excel, and MS Word
  • Photoshop skills, InDesign skills, and After Effects skills a plus
  • Excellent written, editorial, and communication skills with exceptional attention to detail, using correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar
  • Working knowledge of design terminology, materials, and methods preferred
  • Ability to present oneself professionally, diplomatically, and comfortably with a diverse group of stakeholders
  • Strong project-management skills and excellent organizational skills

Working conditions and physical demands:

  • This is a full-time (40 hours per week) position; work is currently performed in a hybrid environment with no fewer than 3 days in the Chelsea office, however, must have flexibility to work occasional nights and weekends, and travel to Dia Beacon, as needed; typically, prolonged periods of sitting, as well as use of computers and standard office equipment, are required to accomplish work objectives
