About the instructor
John Hogan is a visual artist who began working directly with Sol LeWitt in 1982 as a draftsperson. He has installed over 500 of LeWitt’s wall drawings and continues to now work with the LeWitt Estate as the Studio contact person for the installation of LeWitt wall drawings. He recently was the project director for the Sol LeWitt wall drawing retrospective at the Center Pompidou, Metz, France, and the Museum M, Leuven, Belgium, which presented over 60 wall drawings.
About the studio
The Sol LeWitt Studio is composed of 12 senior draftspersons who have been trained to install the LeWitt wall drawings using the standards and materials approved by Mr. LeWitt. They primarily worked directly with Sol LeWitt prior to his death, and some of the younger members are draftspersons who have been trained in the Studio’s standards and continue to carry forward the intellectual understanding and standards to install LeWitt’s work properly. Generally, a single Studio draftsperson works directly with local artists providing the necessary understanding of the work, skills, and materials required to install a wall drawing. The Studio continues to train draftspersons as the opportunity arises, and the LeWitt wall drawing archive at Yale University will maintain examples of all processes for future reference.
