George Stolz is an independent curator and writer based in Spain and an adjunct professor at the University of Miami School of Architecture. Recent projects have included editing "Especulaciones", a selection of Hollis Frampton's writings, which was published in conjunction with a survey of Frampton's films at the MACBA Museum in Barcelona, and curating the exhibition "Sol LeWitt: Photography" which toured in museums in various European countries. He has published numerous catalogue essays and magazine articles on contemporary art in the U.S. and Europe and is the Madrid correspondent for ARTnews magazine.

Robert Irwin consulted on the master plan for Dia:Beacon, creating, in particular, the design and landscaping of the outdoor spaces, and the entrance building and the window design. He was born in Long Beach, California, in 1928, and studied in Los Angeles at the Otis Art Institute (1948-50), the Jepson Art Institute (1951), and the Chinouard School of Art (1952-54). Since his first solo exhibition, at the Landau Gallery, Los Angeles, in 1957, he has exhibited widely in galleries and museums in North America and abroad. Irwin received a MacArthur Fellowship in 1984. In 1993, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, initiated a major retrospective of his work, which subsequently traveled to Paris, Madrid, and Cologne. Among his numerous public projects, the most recent is the monumental garden he designed for the Getty Center in Los Angeles, which opened in 1997. Dia held a two-part exhibition of Irwin's work in 1998-99, showing two site-specific installations, Prologue: x183 and Excursus: Homage to the Square³. Irwin currently lives and works in San Diego. Gallery Talks at Dia:Beacon is a series of presentations that take place the last Saturday of every month at 1 pm and are free with admission to the museum. Focused on the work of the artists in Dia's collection, the one-hour presentations are given by curators, art historians, and writers, and take place in museum's galleries. Reservations are suggested. Please call Dia:Beacon at 845-440-0100 ext 44.

Gallery Talks at Dia:Beacon are made possible through the generosity of the New York State Council on the Arts, a State agency; The Karan-Weiss Foundation; and the Jane W. Nuhn Charitable Trust.
